The Photography Contest Is Closing Soon! Get Your Entries In Before It's Too Late!

STEAM Club Photography Contest 2024

What Is It?

The STEAM Club photography contest is meant to allow students to show off their photography skills and celebrate the Art aspect of STEAM!

Important Dates

The submission window closes on May 9th! The winners of the contest will be announced in the May 17th STEAM Club Mathathon Event.

Who Can Participate?

All students in grades 6-12 can participate.

How to Participate

To participate:

  1. Read the rules for the contest (next item below) carefully.
  2. Choose up to three of your best STEAM-related pictures to enter into the contest. (What is a STEAM-related picture? Anything that can be tied to a STEAM field. What about an animal? Sure, that’s science. A math formula? That’s math, of course. A building? That’s architecture, which is art and engineering. Whatever pictures you submit, tell us a story about how it relates to STEAM in the description area.)
  3. Submit your images through this Google Form.

The judges on the Grading Committee (Ace, Durga, Hitej, Jan, and Stephanie) will then review the images and select the best ones.

Remember, you can only enter up to 3 of your photographs.

Important Rules [Read Me!]
  • A maximum of 3 photographs per student may be entered.
  • Photo editing is allowed, as long as the final image still resembles a photograph and does not look like a drawing. Download examples to show you good and bad (what you shouldn’t do) editing below.
  • If you edit any photographs, make sure to indicate which you have edited when you enter them into the contest.
  • Only submit ORIGINAL photographs that you have taken—not family, friends, or people on the Internet. Submitting plagiarized or AI-generated images will result in immediate disqualification.
  • When you enter your photographs, you acknowledge that you will be credited with your first name and last initial.

To access the guidelines the Grading Committee will use for grading, please view the Grading Rubric below.

Winners' Prize

The winners (top 3) will get a featured spot on this contest page (with first name and last initial) and a certificate!

For information on how your submissions will be judged, please read through our grading rubric and ensure your photograph(s) adhere as closely as possible to the criteria for a better chance of winning. You can also download a sample of a good image and a sample of a poor image (and see how they are judged).

The 2024 rubric is based on the 2020-21 rubric created by former STEAM Team member Sarah M.; the unedited photo samples were provided by former STEAM Team member Benjamin G. Thanks Sarah and Benjamin!
