Fact of the Day: 18/11/2022

Have you ever heard of trigonometry? It’s actually simpler  than you may think! According to LiveScience.com, “Trigonometry is a branch of mathematics that studies relationships between the sides and angles of triangles” (par. 1). This section of mathematics came up in Greece sometime in the third century B.C., later incorporating significant contributions from  India a few centuries later (par. 2). Groups like the Egyptians and Neo-Babylonians used trigonometry to compute the specific times that different stars rise. By studying the sky, they also figured out that there are roughly 360 days in a year. They did all that by just understanding triangles! Trigonometry is still taught and used now. Who knew triangles could be so interesting and impactful?
