Fact of the Day: 21/11/2022

I’m sure you have heard of greenhouse gasses. As more people become cognisant of the impact humans have on the environment, they are starting to pay more attention to harmful things like the excess of greenhouse gasses in our atmosphere. What really are greenhouse gasses? According to EPA.gov, they are “gasses that trap heat in the atmosphere” (par. 1). Different types include carbon dioxide, which is emitted when burning fossil fuels; methane gas, which is produced during the making of fossil fuels and released from certain agricultural activities; and nitrous oxide, which is emitted from agricultural and industrial practices. Once in our atmosphere, these gasses form a kind of blanket around Earth, trapping solar heat and warming up the planet (par. 7). Our Earth is very important; thanks to organizations like the EPA, we can study the environment to learn how to better protect this planet.
