Fact of the Day: 02/01/2023
What happens when you get a paper cut? You bleed a little and then the bleeding stops, right? Have you ever wondered why the bleeding stops? When a blood vessel is damaged, it sends out a signal that calls little components in blood, known as platelets, to the affected area (Hopkins Medicine, par. 2). The platelets then cluster together where the vessel is damaged to stop bleeding in the process of “clotting.” This essentially seals off the damaged area, giving your body time to heal the wound (Cleveland Clinic, par. 3). Isn’t it amazing how the body has such a great natural response system to keep you healthy and safe?
