Fact of the Day: 16/01/2023

You have heard of a crocodile and you have heard of a shark, but have you ever heard of a crocodile shark? Even though it has ‘crocodile’ in its name, this animal is actually a type of shark. It was named ‘crocodile’ because of the intense snapping it reacts with when taken out of water. This shark lives in mostly tropical oceans and tends to stay deeper in the water, but may come up at night to feed. Its diet consists of shrimp and squid. Female sharks of this species grow to about 3 feet in length, and male sharks grow to about 2.4 feet in length (par. 1-6). Even though the shark has a scary name, it doesn’t normally pose a threat to humans. What do you think about the crocodile shark? Do you think it lives up to its name?
