Fact of the Day: 27/01/2023

In health class you will hear about white blood cells, but do you know how they help the body? A basic description of white blood cells is that they help the body fight infection and are a part of the immune system. According to ClevelandClinic.org, “As your white blood cells travel through your bloodstream and tissues, they locate the site of an infection and act as an army general to notify other white blood cells of their location to help defend your body from an attack of an unknown organism” (par. 2). The white blood cells then take it a step further and help release antibodies that destroy the unknown organisms. These cells are found all throughout the bloodstream, but actually form in bone marrow (a soft tissue found within bones). Before reading this, did you think that white blood cells were so impactful?
