Fact of the Day: 09/10/2020

Babies are such tiny, adorable creatures, and you’d expect them to be much less complex than adults, right? Well, if so, then you’re in for a surprise, because babies acually have 100 more bones that adults. Yes, 100! When babies are just born, they need to be as flexible and malleable as possible to squeeze through their mothers’ birth canal, and in order to do so, they are born with many small unattached bones that are able to easily change position. However, as the baby grows into a child, teenager, and then adult, those bones gradually fuse together to form a smaller quantity of large bones. That also explains why you were so much more flexible as a little kid than you are now!
