Fact of the Day: 17/11/2020

The platypus is one of the most amazing mammals on earth with its webbed feet, duck bill, venomous legs, and… wait… blue-green fur? Yup! Scientists have recently discovered that platypus fur is actually fluorescent, glowing green and blue when put under a black light. Platypus fur absorbs UV rays and emits them back under the right conditions. Scientists aren’t sure of the exact function just yet; however, they hypothesize that it could be a camouflage mechanism to assist the animal in hiding from nighttime predators with night vision. Either way, it’s still pretty cool!
