Fact of the Day: 18/01/2021
Did you know that humans emit light? We do – just not visible light. The electromagnetic spectrum (also EM spectrum) consists of many different wavelengths, and thus frequencies, of light. Shorter wavelengths have higher energy; longer wavelengths have lower energy. The visible part of the EM spectrum is relatively low-frequency (low-energy) light. Still, we don’t emit enough heat to produce our own visible light (we just reflect sunlight or light from any light source, like a bulb). However, we do emit light at other, lower wavelengths – particularly infrared. So if we had infrared vision, everyone would be glowing, and the Sun wouldn’t appear bright!
