Fact of the Day: 05/04/2021

Why do some people dislike broccoli so much while others don’t mind it at all? At first it may seem like personal taste and preference. However, it may go deeper than that, in fact, the aversion may be ingrained in an individuals very DNA. Depending on the structure of an individuals DNA, the chemical phenylthiocarbamide (PTC), which is present in vegetables such as cabbage and broccoli, may taste different. For this reason, broccoli and other veggies from the Brassica genus may seem bitter or even tasteless. Yay genes?
