Fact of the Day: 15/04/2021

We’ve all heard about the typical x and y coordinate plane (Cartesian plane) but what is the polar coordinate plane? Unlike the Cartesian plane which has an x and y axis perpendicular to each other, the polar coordinate plane exists as a series of concentric circles with a center called the pole. Polar lines run through the pole at certain angles and it has a polar axis. The polar coordinate plane can be very useful when it comes to measuring accurate distances and graphing unique shapes such as limaçons, rose curves, and lemniscates. Playing around with polar equations on graphs can create some very unique math art.
