Hot showers can feel amazing, but are they always good for you? Taking hot showers on a daily basis can do more harm to your body than good. Your skin is a layer of cells that’s meant to regulate your internal body temperature and protect it from invading germs and bacteria. By showering with hot water, your skin may dry out and experience redness, itchiness, and symptoms similar to that of a sunburn, in an effort for your skin to return itself to homeostasis. On the other hand, cold showers are known to stimulate your cells and follicles, making your body feel refreshed and able to retain more moisture. Not everyone can enjoy an nice cold shower, however, and in order to accustom yourself to it, gradually reduce the the temperature every time you shower until you reach a comfortable lukewarm – cool temperature. And on the rare occasion you do treat yourself to a hot shower, try to reduce your showering time.
