Fact of the Day: 08/09/2021

Why does it rain?

Rain occurs when clouds become saturated with water vapor and begin to condense. Clouds are, themselves, composed of water vapor droplets, which bump into each other and interact inside the cloud. As they collide, the droplets aggregate. When the droplets become too big to remain in the cloud—when the cloud becomes too saturated with heavy droplets—they begin to fall to the ground as precipitation, in what we call ‘rain.’
