Fact of the Day: 14/12/2021

Have you ever watched a hot-air balloon fly on TV or actually been in one yourself? You may have wondered who invented the hot-air balloon. According to Brittanica, “Joseph-Michel and Jacques-Étienne Montgolfier, also called the Montgolfier brothers . . .  [are the] developers of the hot-air balloon” (“Joseph-Michel and Jacques-Étienne Montgolfier” par. 1). They discovered “that heated air, when collected inside a large lightweight paper or fabric bag, caused the bag to rise into the air” (par. 3). The brothers tested the hot-air balloon on an actual person on Nov. 21, 1783, and they managed to cover 5.5 miles (9 km) and stay in the air for 25 minutes (par. 3). These brothers were ahead of their time because this was the first trip ever made through the sky. What would have happened if there were no hot-air balloons?
