You may have tasted the great delicacy of hot chocolate, sitting near a fireplace or wrapped under blankets on a cold day. Even if you haven’t, it is a delicious drink that you should try. Where did hot chocolate come from? Who were the first people to enjoy something similar to it? According to National Today, “[in] 500 BC . . . The Ancient Mayans drank chocolate made from crushed cocoa seeds mixed in water and chili peppers” (“National Hot Chocolate Day” par. 2). While the drink itself was spicy and cold, it was eventually brought to Europe, sweetened, and heated up. Today is National Hot Chocolate Day. Celebrate by enjoying your favorite hot chocolate or making new kinds with unique ingredients.
