Fact of the Day: 27/05/2022
There are many types of vacuum cleaners, from wired to wireless. Who invented the first one? According to Science Museum.org, the answer is Hubert Cecil Booth (par. 6). At first, he created a ‘blowing’ machine to blow up dust from surfaces, but then set out to modify his machine to suck the dust instead. He formed the British Vacuum Cleaner Company and brought the first vacuum cleaner to market (par. 9-11). The first more-or-less practical vacuum cleaner design, however, was conceived by James Spangler, then sold to William Hoover in 1908 (par. 20). Since then, the vacuum cleaner has improved to become the modern version we all know today. Do you use vacuum cleaners often?
