Could a person tell the difference between a 1 degree Fahrenheit change in water temperature? Science says yes. A study was conducted in which subjects were made to submerge their hands in freezing cold water for a set amount of time. Then, the same subjects – without being told the difference – were made to submerge their hands in freezing cold water that was just a single degree Fahrenheit warmer. Afterwards, the subjects were surveyed and asked which set of water they would choose if they had to do the challenge again. An overwhelming number chose the water that was 1 degree Fahrenheit warmer, despite not even knowing the difference was there.
