Fact of the Day: 20/01/2023

Morse Code is often seen in shows and movies, but what is it really? It is a type of language that includes characters such as dots and dashes. You can communicate in this language by flashing a light a certain number of times or by using a machine that sends pulses. The original Morse Code was created by Samuel F. B. Morse, and its purpose was to send messages to others far away. It was sort of like the first telephone. Later, a newer type of Morse Code, called the International Morse Code, was developed. It is very similar to its predecessors, but is slightly more concise. According to Britannica.com, “International Morse Code was used in World War II and in the Korean and Vietnam wars” (par. 3). Many people out at sea used it to easily communicate with others, but this quickly stopped once radios became more widespread. Even though Morse Code is rarely used today, it is still an important form of language and was an impactful part of our history.
