Fact of the Day: 07/11/2022

Recently, astronomers have been studying some galaxies clustering around a quasar. What is a quasar? According to NASA.gov, “A quasar, a special type of active galactic nucleus (AGN), is a compact region with a supermassive black hole at the center of a galaxy.” Such an entity is bright enough to outshine all of the stars in its galaxy because of  gas falling into its black hole (par. 2). The interesting thing about the quasar studied with the James Webb Space Telescope is that it is bright red due to extensive red-shifting. Do you think you might want to help study new galaxies? Maybe you can be the next one to find a rare red quasar!
