Fact of the Day: 08/11/2021
A flute is a soprano instrument, or an instrument that is tuned in the “highest of four standard voices.” Flutes usually play the melody of the song. Without the flute, the melody of the song would not stand out as much. Who created this beautiful instrument? Theobald Boehm (1794—1881), an intelligent inventor and musician, created the model for the modern-day flute in 1848, in Munich, Germany. Boehm also created the Boehm System (patented in 1847), which improved the flute fingering system. Even though most modern music does not include classical instruments, it is always good to have an appreciation for them and see where they come from.
