Fact of the Day: 13/09/2021
Have you ever heard of the term “Standard Model” and wondered what it means?
The Standard Model of particle physics is a physical model that describes the subatomic world. It captures our best understanding of the basic particles that build up our world, and explains how the particles are related to each other and matter as a whole.
It was developed in the 1970s and, since then, has done a pretty good job of explaining the weird subatomic world. However, it also has its flaws, with one of the most obvious being the fact that it includes only three of the four fundamental forces, gravity being excluded. There are also some aspects of our reality that the Standard Model fails to explain, making it somewhat incomplete.
