Fact of the Day: 26/04/2021
Why does your mouth feel itchy after you eat a pineapple? That’s because the pineapple is eating you back. No, really! Pineapples contain an enzyme in them called Bromelian that works to break down proteins. Thus, when you bite into a pineapple, that enzyme begins to go into effect and breaks down the proteins on your tongue and the roof of your mouth. But don’t worry! Eating too much pineapple won’t disintegrate you. In fact, the Bromelian becomes inactive once it completely interacts with the enzymes in your saliva and stomach acid, rendering it completely safe.
