Fact of the Day: 06/05/2021
What does it mean to be mysophobic? Mysophobia is an extreme and irrational fear of germs and contamination. Individuals who suffer from this phobia may also experience obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and find the need to I repeat certain actions to an extreme extent to which it becomes an interference in every day life. Such actions may include compulsively washing their hands, cleaning, sanitizing, or changing clothing. Any interference in doing these actions or an abrupt exposure to contamination or dirt could result in an anxiety attack. Although, like with many phobias, there is no cure for mysophobia, it may be treated with therapy such as exposure therapy.
