When you think of India, the first place that usually comes to everyone’s mind is the Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal is not the only famous place in India, however. Today we are going to talk about a famous place called the Hawa Mahal. What is the architecture behind the Hawa Mahal? According to Jaipur.org, “[the] Hawa Mahal, designed as a beehive castle with small windows . . . is famous for its windows or ‘Jharokhas’ which enable free circulation of air within the structure . . . The interior of the Hawa Mahal is stark and plain with passages and pillars reaching to the top storey. The building does not have stairs to reach the upper floors; the storeys are connected by slopes” (“Hawa Mahal” par. 3). The Hawa Mahal has a very unique structure that allows it to stand without stairs and have excellent circulation without AC or a heating system. Isn’t it cool to explore all the quirky architectural marvels humans have come up with?
