Fact of the Day: 21/10/2021
What is tensile strength?
Tensile strength, according to Britannica, is the maximum weight a material can handle without fracturing, divided by the area of the initial cross section of the material. If you were to apply a weight less than the tensile strength of a material to a sample of the material, the sample would return either partially or fully to its original shape. However, if you were to apply a load that approaches the value of the tensile strength more and more, the sample of material would eventually fracture.
