Fact of the Day: 28/04/2022

When we think of beaches, we typically think of sand (although there are some beaches without sand). How is beach sand formed? Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution explains, “Most beaches get their sand from rocks on land. Over time, rain, ice, wind, heat, cold, and even plants and animals break rock into smaller pieces. This weathering may begin with large boulders that break into smaller rocks. Water running through cracks erodes the rock” (“How beach sand is created?” par. 2). Did you know this is how beach sand was (and is) created?
