Fact of the Day: 08/11/2022

I’m sure we have all used software at one time or another, but do you know what software actually is? According to Tech Target.com, “Software is a set of instructions, data or programs used to operate computers and execute specific tasks.” There are two main types:system software and application software. A system software “provides a platform for applications to run on top of” (par. 2). Application software is a little different—it helps complete a more specific task on your computer. Software is the opposite of hardware, which is not program-related but refers to the more physical part of the computer (par. 1). The way you can access software changes as technology changes, but currently most of it can be downloaded directly to a computer. Next time you turn on your computer, think about all the things that are possible because of a little thing called software.
