Fact of the Day: 17/01/2023

Normally when you think of bacteria you probably think of bacteria-caused illnesses, but did you know that some bacteria are actually good for your health? A bacterium is a single-celled organism that can be found almost anywhere. Some bacteria can cause harm to humans, but most kinds are not dangerous at all. In fact, there are bacteria in your stomach that help your body function normally. According to Healthline.com, “Most of the beneficial bacteria in the human body are located in your digestive system or gut microbiome. These bacteria help to break down food and keep you healthy” (section 7). There are healthy bacteria in a lot of the food that you eat as well. Yogurt and kombucha are both very healthy and filled with bacteria (section 7). So, next time you hear the word ‘bacteria,’ don’t be afraid—those small single-celled organisms help keep your body up and going!
