Fact of the Day: 20/12/2022
Who was Alan Shepard? Shepard was an astronaut who paved the way for many future space explorers. He was born on November 18, 1923 and started his career by working on ships during World War II. He later became a test pilot and worked trying out new aircraft models. Then, in 1959, Shepard became an astronaut and the first American to go to space (par. 1). He flew in a Mercury capsule, which only had room for one. Even though he didn’t orbit the Earth, he flew 116 miles high and left the atmosphere (par. 2). Much later, he took part in the Apollo 14 flight, which landed on the moon. He collected data from space and became the first to hit a golf ball on the moon (par. 3-4). He died in 1998, but he made big waves in the space community and will always be remembered.
