Fact of the Day: 30/11/2021

The sun has been giving light to the earth long before humans started roaming the planet. Have you ever wondered how old the sun really is? If you have, you’re not the only one. Scientists were curious, too, and decided to determine the age of our star. To figure it out, they took some rocks from the moon and studied them. The objects in the solar system, including the moon, were created at around the same time, so by finding the moon’s age, you find a good approximation for the sun’s age. That’s exactly what the scientists did, and we found out how long the sun has been shining. According to NASA, the sun is about 4.5 billion years old (“How old is the sun” par. 1). That’s really old! When you go outside and notice how the sun is shining bright, I hope you remember this fact and appreciate just how wonderful our star really is.
