Engineering is everywhere! It is used in homes, roads, and other types of construction, and of course is one of the subjects discussed in STEAM. But what really is the definition of engineering? LiveScience.com simply states, “Engineering is the application of science and mathematics to solve problems.” Engineering has been a huge part of history. Creations like the Eiffel Tower, the Pyramids of Giza, and other marvels located around the world are fantastic examples of how extraordinary engineering really is. There are also different categories of engineering, such as:
- environmental engineering, which deals with topics like pollution;
- nuclear engineering, which can involve power plants and potentially dangerous nuclear reactors;
- and civil engineering, which is probably what most people think of when they think of engineering because it involves areas like construction and inspection.
Engineering has been an important part in history and is still extremely prevalent today. It combines many different topics, so much so that it can be seen in every aspect of life.
