Fact of the Day: 16/03/2022
Many of us know what the scientific method is—a method used to find an answer to a scientific question. Did you know there is something called the engineering method? According to Ron Lasser, “The engineering method (also known as engineering design) is a systematic approach used to reach the desired solution to a problem. There are six steps (or phases): idea, concept, planning, design, development, and launch from problem definition to desired result” (Lasser par. 1). What is the difference between this method and the scientific method? The scientific method uses a specific series of steps to help answer questions about natural phenomena and is mainly used in science; the engineering method solves a problem and is mainly used in engineering.
