Fact of the Day: 31/03/2021
Why is Mars unable to support life? The main reason is because of its lacking atmosphere. Astronomers and astrophysicists have long theorized about what could have caused the complete annihilation of Mars’ atmosphere. The prevailing theory is that the planet has never possessed a very strong magnetic field as a result of various catastrophic events; this weak magnetic field allowed the powerful radiation of the sun to chip away at its atmosphere, eventually leaving it with none. Having being stripped of its precious atmosphere, Mars was left incapable of retaining water, oxygen, and any other essential elements for life. However, astronomers still have hope that there may be evidence of frozen water beneath Mars’ surface, and perhaps with it, the hope for extraterrestrial life.
